Antalya, on the southwest coast of Turkey, is one of the most beautiful places in the world and most likely coincides with the image people form in their head when they think of utopia. There are an endless number of stunning places to visit and exciting activities to experience in and around Antalya, so take a look at some of the must see places you should definitely not miss out on when visiting.
Kaleici’s Harbour
There is no doubt that the best way to experience the sheer beauty of Turkey’s southwest coast is of course, by sea. This is why the Kaleici harbour is definitely a must see place. With a large number of different boat trips available, that will enable you to experience the freshest and most delicious fish, unspoiled coves to bathe in as well as perfect beaches to work on your holiday tan.
The town of Kaleici is often referred to as the centre of Antalya, making it one of the liveliest towns that the city has to offer. With a large number of entertainment facilities, lovely restaurants and many different hotels, Kaleici is definitely a great town to stay in whilst in Turkey.
Düden Waterfalls
Just in case you didn’t quite believe me when I compared the southwest coast of Turkey to the picturesque idea of utopia, you will be glad to discover that the area is home to a total of twelve different waterfalls. The Düden Waterfalls, located in the well-kept DSI State Park on the outskirts of Antalya will have you thinking that you have just entered into the Garden of Eden. Relax on the edge of the water, the perfect place to soak up the sun and enjoy a family picnic. For the more adventurous type, that find picnics boring, you’ll be glad to know that there are a number of ancient graves nearby the waterfalls. Throw on your Indiana Jones hat and start exploring.
Hadrian’s Gate
Hadrian’s Gate is definitely one of the most iconic structures in the whole of Turkey and a perfect place to start your walking tour of Antalya. The breathtakingly beautiful and architecturally magnificent three-arched gate was built in honour of Roman Emperor Hadrian’s visit to the town in 130 A.D. This arch has history written all over it, with legend even stating that Sultan Belkis, the Queen of Sheba, passed through this very gate, enjoying a fantastic day in the palace, on her journey to visit King Solomon.
Myra
This ancient Greek area situated in the small town of Kale, within the Antalya Province, is the perfect place for anyone interested in history and architecture. The sheer brilliance of the magnificently constructed rock-cut tombs that span all the way up the vertical faces of the cliffs will keep you captivated for hours. Be sure to also pay a visit to the typical Greek-styled stone theatre while there.
